Surigao del Norte Champions this year’s Gawad KALASAG
For the year 2022, the province of Surigao del Norte won the giant and prestigious Seal of Gawad KALASAG.
According to Regional Dir. Liza Mazo of the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) Caraga, the beloved province emerged as ‘beyond compliant’ during the Final Validation and Deliberation wherein the awarding ceremony took place last July 29, 2022 at the Office of Civil Defense Government Command and Control Center, positioned at Camp Romualdo C. Rubi, Bancasi, Butuan City.
To top it all, the province triumphed in COVID-19 and Odette response which was recognized during the Culmination of the National Disaster Resilience Month 2022.
Gilberto Gonzales, LDRRMO IV of the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (PDRRMO), ably represented Gov. Robert Lyndon S. Barbers.
KALASAG stands for KAlamidad at Sakuna LAbanan, SAriling Galing ang Kaligtasan, by virtue of Sections 11 and 12 of Republic Act No. 10121, otherwise known as Philippine Disaster Risk Reduction Management Act, a pre-requisite qualifier for LGUs nationwide in the field of DRR.
Meanwhile, municipal LGUS which were adjudged as beyond compliant are as follows: (1) Bacuag, (2) Mainit, (3) Malimono, (4) Sison, (5) Sta. Monica, (6) Tubod and (7) Surigao City.
For the fully compliant category, the following LGUs prevailed: (1) Alegria, (2) Del Carmen, (3) Gigaquit, (4) Pilar, (5) San Isidro, and (6) Tagana-an
Partially compliant LGUs were as follows: Burgos, Claver, Dapa, General Luna, San Benito, San Francisco and Socorro. (Glen Platil)
