The Provincial Government of Surigao del Norte through Gov. Francisco Matugas together with Vice Gov. Geed Gokiangkee, Cong. Bingo Matugas and Provincial Board Members welcomed Australian Ambassador Steven J. Robinson AO, Defense Attache COL. Paul Barta CSC and Counselor for Political, Economic and Public Diplomacy James Yeoman this morning at the Bayay Surigaoon, Capitol Compound.

This is in celebration of the long standing ties between Australia and the Philippines particularly the province of Surigao del Norte to the extent of Australia’s contributions to the province such as Scholarship Program, PRMF and specifically its campaign to liberate the Philippines during World War 11 in which Surigao City recently celebrated the 77th anniversary of the Battle of Surigao Strait.

During the visit, Ambassador Robinson expressed his appreciation and gratitude for the warmed welcome of the Provincial Government headed by Gov. Matugas manifesting the hospitality of the Surigaonons. Much wanted to visit Siargao as Cong. Bingo Matugas invited him but according to the ambassador, they run out of time. He looked forward to a more progressive, developed Surigao and well boomed tourism industry in Siargao.
