President Rodrigo Roa Duterte arrived in Siargao Island to inaugurate Siargao ‘s Big-Ticket Infrastructure Projects on November 6, 2021.

The two Big – Ticket Infrastructure Projects are the Siargao Island Sports and Tourism Complex in Dapa and the Catangnan-Cabitoonan Bridge and Libertad Bridge 1&2 in General Luna.

The construction of Siargao Island Sports and Tourism Complex started on the year 2015 under the administration of former Gov. Sol F. Matugas and continued by Gov. Francisco T. Matugas by providing additional funds for its completion as part of his priority development agenda, the promotion of health and wellness program. The efforts of the Provincial Government were completed by the 1st District Representative, Cong. Francisco Jose ” Bingo” Matugas 11, whose commitment and strong desire to strengthen sports and tourism development in the island likewise made possible the funding of additional facilities with the support from the National Government under the ” Build, Build, Build” Program of President Rodrigo Roa Duterte, thru the Department of Public Works and Highways.

This 6.3 hectare Sports and Tourism Complex with a total cost of Php. 630,209,638.12 is now ready to host national and international sports and tourism events with its world-class facilities and amenities as follows :

1. Siargao Sports Complex gymnasium has a maximum seating capacity of 1,632 persons, with
2. Multi-purpose Building with a basketball, volleyball and badminton courts
3. Siargao Sports High School with Dormitory comprises of two storey six classroom multi-purpose buildings serves as Primary Sports Development and Training Center and Dormitory for the athletes.
This provides a venue for local students-athletes to excel in sports as well as opens opportunity for them to hone their skills in sports.
4. Rubberized athletic oval and two grandstand / multi purpose buildings
5. Soccer field
6. Swimming pool
7. Convention Center.

With the establishment of these facilities, the locals in the Islands now have a center that will help nurture their skills and talents and will bring recognition to the province and the country and also expected to boost the island’s flourishing tourism industry.

Meanwhile, the Catangnan-Cabitoonan Bridge, Libertad Bridge 1 & 2 in General Luna is another dream infrastructure project by former Gov. Sol F. Matugas that has turned a reality for the Siargaonons. These three bridges connect the barangays of Sta. Cruz, Sta. Fe, Libertad, Cabitoonan and Catangnan, enhancing accessibility and mobility of the people, goods and services, to and from the tourism hub of the island.

The three two-lane bridges in General Luna-the Catangnan-Cabitoonan Bridge with a total length of 348.8 linear meters, Libertad Bridge 1 with a length of 85.8 lm. and Libertad Bridge 2 with a stretch of 36.8 lm. totalled Php 434 Million.

The completion of these bridges were made possible by Cong. Francisco Jose “Bingo” F. Matugas who worked relentlessly until the vision became a reality.
